fanfiction....

I am the seminar incharge of my department. That means taking care of everything while a professor or a graduate student is giving a stupid presentation every friday morning. This happened about 3-4 weeks before. Just imagine a situation- I had to go to the seminar room so that I can arrange things for the seminarI usually reach there 30 minutes before the seminar starts. I looked at my watch and then looked at my laptop screen.

30 minutes to go....

me- Ehh... I will go after after five minutes... I can't leave it at this moment.

The clock ticked... fifteen minutes to go....

the other me- Hey hurry up. The speaker would be already there, waiting for you , you are the seminar incharge...

me- but I cant leave this at this junction.. I mean I want to know what is going to happen next...

the other me- Oh come on .. take a print out of the chapter, you can read it while the speaker is babbeling about the stoopid findings in his stoopid research work. Thats anyway better than sleeping through the presentation.

me- hey thats a good idea. Anyway they dont care about paper in this country.

So I quickly took out a 50 page printout of the chapter that I was reading on my laptop.

Well, if you are thinking that I had an examination that afternoon and that I was religiously studying to prepare for that then you are 100% off the mark.

I was hooked to a Harry Potter fanfic.

Have you ever read Harry Potter books?
I bet you have. In case you haven't then any further lines in this post are meaningless for you.
Now to the next question:
Have you ever read any Harry Potter fanfic?
fanfic- what is that?

Fan fiction (also spelled fanfiction and commonly abbreviated to fanfic) is fiction written by people who enjoy a film, novel, television show or other media work, using the characters and situations developed in it and developing new plots in which to use these characters. Characters and props from more than one media work may also be incorporated into a single fanfiction (known as crossovers). ...

So continuing my story- I was reading Harry Potter and the Triange Prophesy written by Barb. This describes the 7th year of Harry Potter at Hogwarts.

You can get Barb's fanfics here:
http://www.geocities.com/psychic_serpent/home.html

Barb wrote 3 Harry Potter novel size fanfics during the period in which J.K. Rowlings wrote The Order of the Phoenix after writing The Goblet of Fire. I had read the first book (yes a book) : Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent during my undergraduate days, the second book: Harry Potter and The Time of Good Intentions just after my undergrads and the final book Harry Potter and the Triangle prophesy just few days before.
Barb even got the Golden Quill award for 2002 (or 2003!!) for writing HP and the Psychic serpent. Its a fictitious award given to the author of the best fanfic of the year.

Well these books are roller coaster of a ride and I can assure you that after reading them you will start confusing both the plots. I mean the plot of the real HP books and the fanfics written by Barb. I have.

I must say that these books are simply awesome and keep you hooked all along. The books are rated R which means you have lots of situations here which Rowling can never even imagine including in her books, and this is the reason why it should appeal to ppl in thr teens or older. I mean sometimes the overdose gets to you... but after you have been through the book you simply cannot stop musing abt them for many many days. The imagination of the writer is mersmerising. The plot is even better than those of the original books. I rate the books even better than that of Rowlings - in terms of plot development, characters, romance, action, drama.... everything. Read it if you have time on your hand. For my part, I can't wait for mid December- when the semester ends and I get some respite to read the other fanfics written by barb and others.

Love ... again

That Love is all there is,
Is all we know of Love.
-Emily Dickinson

Infantile love follows the principle: "I love because I am loved."
Mature love follows the principle: "I am loved because I love."
Immature love says: "I love you because I need you."
Mature love says: "I need you because I love you."
-Erich Fromm

Love is like pi - natural, irrational, and very important.
-Lisa Hoffman

My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite.

Love......

Have you even been in love? Horrible, isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up this whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...

You give them a piece of you. They don't ask for it. They do something dumb one day like kiss you, or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so a simple phrase like "maybe we should just be friends" or "how very perceptive" turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.

The power to say NO

Isn't it the toughest job- mustering up enough courage to say that all important two letter word.
I had a chance to say NO and I wanted to say that. But as always I didnt feel that i had a good enough reason to say that. Is it lack of courage or just a propensity to come out with my hands clean out of a dirty job??
Somehow i feel guilty about it .. everytime I want to say NO but couldn't do it.
